We don't really have any new information about Peace Corps except that we might find out some options for placement on the 26th. We're hoping they come up with something that is a good fit for us. Keep us in your prayers. We'll keep you posted.

My Name is Emily, and I Like Reality T.V.
Jon didn't so much approve of the implication that he "watches" Survivor. Because he wanted to clarify the situation and I was afraid that he would mention that I read the "Survivors Strike Back" blog every week, I thought it would be better if I were the one to set everyone straight. Jon only watches Survivor on a handful of nights because he is sitting next to me. Although he does occasionally participate in conversations about strategy for each player during commercials (because I won't let Jon talk during the show), I know he can't believe I am making him watch it, let alone talk about it. Other shows Jon watches by default of being a good (and neglected) husband include: America's Next Top Model, Beauty and the Geek, and the Biggest Loser. I have picked up the occasional Project Runway while I run at the gym, which I really like - maybe someday we'll get cable, although I'd probably never see the light of day if this were the case. For some reason, I haven't gotten into the Amazing Race, but I do think that, if we were to play, Jon and I would make a good team; I'm sure we could win.

China, here we come!
Jon and I took the leap and finally bought plane tickets to visit the ol' in-laws. (If you feel so inclined, check out the "Chris and Diane" link to the right. Personally, I check their fine blog about 5 times a day.) Because we may be out of the country when they are back to the states for a visit this summer, we decided spring break may be the only chance we have to see them in the next couple years . We won't have time to see everything, but we'll see what is most important - Chris, Diane, Jonah and the Roo. We are so excited.

Jon and Survivor
So, Jon says to Chris on the phone the other day,
"Emily watches Survivor (which was in China last season) and I would like to see the Yangtze River."
I think we need to be honest with ourselves. Emily is not the only one that watches Survivor in this house.

Oddities - part 2
I'm not sure if I decided the "unweird" day was a failure when Jon refused to swing his arms (at all) while walking in Target or when he rolled under the coffee table muttering something about not being able to take it anymore.

Oddities
Those of you who are close to Em and I know that at times (just like all of you) we are quite unique. These oddities can manifest as silly faces, whooping, interpretive dance and among many other things, very bad singing. This morning I am quite aware of our odd behavior and just decided that we should try and be normal for the day.

Ouch!!
A rare moment in my life. I actually questioned the sanity of running a marathon. Under-trained and still slightly injured (from too many hard miles in late October) I found my run on December 9th to be the most painful yet. But, it was only a moment and I am now of the impression that it was pure bliss. Although the agony of my miles in Dallas remain with me, I find that it is a reminder of why I run. To know that I am here. To feel that I am here and push that to the extreme. It has not always been pleasant, but it has always been satisfying.

Official Low-Down
As many of you already know, we have applied for service in the Peace Corps. This process began in the summer as we looked at different agencies to serve abroad with. Since we have known each other, we have both had a strong desire to be in service of others in a place where we might feel like a minority. We considered the Peace Corps, MCC, VSO and several others in this search. The Peace Corps felt like a good fit and the time-frame was what we had in mind. After completing a rigorous online application, requesting recommendations and interviewing for 2 and a half hours in Wichita, we now know nothing new. The liaison in charge of the interview (a liaison between hopeful candidates and the government) gave us the impression that we would be desirable and told us to hold our breath for 2 or 3 weeks. We have requested a placement somewhere in Africa, Central America, South America or the Caribbean and Pacific Islands. We really have no idea what we are doing. It is exciting though and we hope to start service in the summer or shortly thereafter. We will keep you posted.

Ok Kristine. Here it is. You asked for it and now you had better read it each and every day.
